The Future for LNWR
The only thing that is constant in business is change. If you don’t change and adapt, you don’t survive. In many respects, a visit to our premises in Crewe is like stepping back in time to a bygone age the smells, the noises and the energy conjure up pictures of workshops in the first half of the 20th Century when British train manufacturing was at its zenith. And yet, look closer, and you will see things that are out-of-place with such images state of the art lathes, CNC machines and laser cutters, controlled by advanced computers. It is this marriage of the latest technology with the skills passed down through generations of railway artisans that set us apart we have a past, but we also have a future a future where problems are solved through knowledge and experience and the resulting solutions are either crafted by hand or designed on a computer using advanced programs.
Of course, investing in the latest equipment isn’t, in itself, enough. Machines are passive. They need to be fed information. So, alongside our investment in technology, we also make a significant investment in training our people as it is they who will deliver our future. In return, our commitment to them is that we will learn and grow. It is successful and growing businesses that are the life-blood of our economy and the local communities that depend on them. Business isn’t just about making it a profit, albeit it’s a hugely significant component. It’s about investing in our young people and giving them a chance, creating new jobs and opportunities, making a difference to our communities and never accepting that anything less than the best good enough.
We believe that if Churchward, Gresley or Stanier were around today they would be thrilled about the use of our modern equipment. Time and tide waits for no man whether it be axel brushes or boiler stays and we intend to continue pushing the envelope.
